Where to Meet People in the Austin Tech Scene

By Janet Scarborough Civitelli, Ph.D. Last updated on April 11, 2020

If you work in Austin tech or wish you did, it is a smart career strategy to leave the office sometimes and meet people in the Austin tech scene. Here are some of the Austin tech events and organizations to explore:

Austin Digital Jobs – A group with 40,000 members dedicated to retaining talent in Austin and attracting new brands. ADJ hosts a quarterly mixer for socializing and offering employers an opportunity to meet prospective new hires.

Austin Startup Week – An annual five days of events “celebrating Austin startups, the organizations and meetups that support them and all the awesome people that make them happen.”

Austin Technology Council – A group striving to be “the informed opinion leader and unifying voice of technology in Austin and Central Texas.”

Austin Women in Technology – A venue for women in technology to network and assist others who work in or have a passion for technology.

Built in Austin – An online community for Austin startups and tech companies. They advertise jobs, tech news, and events.

Capital Factory – A co-working space and technology community where people come together for learning and connection.

EventBrite – A platform to advertise events. By filtering on “tech” in a search, you can often find interesting Austin tech events.

Meetup – Groups for a wide variety of tech niches. When I searched, there were 2,068 tech-related groups near my Austin location.

SXSW Conference – Austin’s most famous conference focusing on film, culture, music, and technology.
